Within our wide range, it is important that customers can make well-informed choices. Not only because of specifications or quality but also regarding the origin, production process and environmental impact of products. Our customers are looking for products with sustainability benefits and it is our responsibility to inform them about these. We make items with significant (sustainability) benefits compared to other items easily recognizable and findable in our shop, so it is extra important for you as a partner to label your items properly!
When does an item qualify for a label?
Within the bol product range, items are labelled with the earth mark if they meet at least 1 of these 3 points:
- The item has an approved quality mark
- The article consists of at least 50% more sustainable material, e.g. more than 50% Cork, Lyocell or Linen
- The item is in a product category that is approved as a more sustainable alternative
The page for each theme (see below) shows which quality marks or materials can receive this label.

- Free of harmful substances (not yet available in English)
We regularly update the sustainability themes and recognized quality marks and labels and add new ones where necessary. We will keep you informed.
Recognising products
Our label indicates that an item has significant (sustainability) advantages compared to similar items. On bol, you can recognise these items by the globe on the item, which you will see both on the product page itself and in the search results. Here is an example:
Items with an earth mark can be found via:
- the globe on your article
- the assortment page with all categories
- the list of all products with highlighted labels and features
So, when your item has a label, the assortment is easier to find and recognise – and that increases the chance of sales!

Apply for the earth mark label
Do you sell products with sustainability benefits? Then it is possible to apply for one or more labels using the following steps:
- Check whether your assortment meets the criteria of the desired label.
- Download file ‘sustainability characteristics’ using the button and indicate per EAN which label your product has. Does the label apply to the entire brand? Then fill in the tab ‘brand level’ with the name of the brand and the label.
- Upload evidence of your sustainability labels so we can be sure your range qualifies.
- Fill in the form and click on ‘Send’. You can find the form on each theme page. Check the menu on the left.
- You’ll receive an answer within 2 working days from Partner service.
