People & Society

General environmental labels set social and/or environmental requirements. These could include, for example, requirements relating to water pollution, auxiliary materials, chemicals, the use of plant protection products, decent working conditions, fair trade conditions for farmers and making the world a better place.

Criteria

To apply for a label for this theme, we distinguish three things: B Corp, social enterprises, and charities. Read below how we include these topics in assessing whether or not to receive a label.

B Corp

B Corp is a certification for companies that have included sustainability in their corporate mission alongside profit. In doing so, they commit themselves to a better world. The B Corp certification can be compared to a fair-trade label for coffee or the Eko label for organic products, but it is a label for companies. B Corp companies distinguish themselves in the social and environmental field, and are transparent about it.

Criteria
Are you a B Corp company but bol doesn’t know about it yet? Contact Partner service to have this changed. As soon as your company is known as a B Corp, new assortment will be labelled automatically.

Social enterprises

These are enterprises with a social mission: to make a better world. They do not rely on donations or subsidies. Every financial goal serves the mission. Furthermore, they are fair and transparent. And they pay attention to their ecological footprint. To be sure that an item is made by a social enterprise, we work with social enterprises that are members of Social Enterprise NL. All products from members of Social Enterprise NL are labelled.

Criteria
Are you a Dutch social entrepreneur? Then register as a social enterprise via social-enterprise.nl to qualify for a sustainability label. Are you a Belgian social entrepreneur? Then registration as a Vennootschap met een Social Oogmerk (VSO – ‘Company with a social company’) is sufficient. Do you meet this requirement but bol doesn’t know about it yet? Then, contact Partner service to have this modified. As soon as your brand is known as a social entreprise, new products will be labelled automatically.

Charities

Charitable organisations work to solve social problems. A charity is considered a public benefit institution if it is at least 90% committed to public interest. It must not aim to make a profit and must meet requirements of integrity.

Criteria
To make sure an item is offered by a charity; we check whether your organisation is a member of CBF (Erkend Goed Doel) or ANBI (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling).

If your brand belongs to a charity organisation and is a member of CBF or ANBI, all products of that brand will be labelled.

Does your brand belong to a charity organisation and a member of CBF or ANBI, but bol doesn’t know about it yet? Then contact Partner service to have this changed.

To build a more sustainable, fair world for everyone, organisations working towards a social goal are badly needed. Items within this category are, for example, fair trade, from a social enterprise or from a charity. An item must have at least one of the quality marks or characteristics listed below to be eligible for a label:
