Definition
An item that helps reduce the use of new raw materials compared to the conventional alternative. By using raw materials longer, for example through second-hand use, repair, refurbishment, or by enabling a generally long lifespan. Or by saving raw materials using recycled materials or a digital version.
Labels
The following labels can be assigned to items within this theme:
- Second-hand: Items that get a second life with another owner, meaning they don't need to buy a new item and new raw materials are saved.
- Refurbished: Items restored to as-new condition by replacing parts, reducing the overall need for new raw materials.
- Digital version: Items delivered digitally, saving significant raw materials compared to physical alternatives. The raw material savings during production are greater than the energy consumption during use.
- Extends lifespan: Specific items used to repair other items, allowing them to be used longer and reducing the overall need for new raw materials.
- Repairable: Items that can be repaired by the user themselves, made possible by the manufacturer providing repair information and long-term available spare parts. Repairing saves raw materials that would otherwise be needed to make a new product.
- Min. 50% recycled: Items made from at least XX% previously used raw materials, reducing the need for new raw materials.

An item must carry one of the quality marks below to qualify for a label.

Apply for a sustainability label
Do you sell a product range with a certification or quality mark? Then you can apply for one or more labels by following these steps:
- Check if your product range meets the criteria of the desired label (see themes);
- Download "Application_Form_Sustainability_Labels" using the button below and indicate per EAN which quality mark your item carries. Does the quality mark apply to the entire brand? Then fill in the ‘brandlevel’ tab with the brand name and the quality mark.
- Upload the proof of your sustainability marks so we can be sure your product range qualifies.
- Fill out the form and click ‘send’. The form can be found on every theme page. See the menu on the left for this.
- You will receive a response within 2 working days.
