Since 1 February, you can find the Budgetopper label via bol. But when does an item get the Budgetopper label? And what do we look at during the selection? We explain it all in this article.
What is a Budgettopper?
Items with the 'Budgettopper' label are high-quality and affordable items. The label makes these items easily recognizable for customers and helps them find an affordable choice.
Here are three examples of the Budgettopper labels:

Customers can spot Budgettoppers in various places across bol. Besides displaying the label on selected items, we highlight Budgettoppers through category pages, filters, banners, and marketing campaigns. In addition, all Budgettoppers items can be found via this page.
How is it determined which items get the label?
We are currently testing the new Budgettopper label. At the moment, we still select items manually based on fixed criteria. In the future, we will automate this process. We look at a combination of affordability and quality.
The following criteria determine whether an item qualifies:
- Price point within the category: the price of the item falls within the lowest segment of a category.
- Price competitiveness: the price of the item is competitive in the market.
- Review score: the item has been rated positively by customers.
- Customer relevance: the item is popular among customers.
These criteria are assessed together. An item only gets the label if it meets all conditions.
These are the criteria that apply right now. We continuously improve the Budgettopper label for the best result. That is why we regularly check if adjustments are needed. In the future, we may change or expand the criteria. We always do this based on results and customer feedback.
Is the selection reviewed regularly?
Yes. The selection of Budgettopper is reassessed once a month based on the applicable criteria.
Does an item no longer meet the conditions at a later time? Then the label can be removed during the next selection. Conversely, an item that meets the conditions can receive the label during the next selection.
The assignment is currently not fully automated yet. Therefore, a change to an item will not be processed immediately in the label assignment.
Good to know
- As a partner, you do not need to take action to register your items for Budgettopper.
- The Budgettopper label cannot be requested.
- Items are evaluated on a combination of the criteria mentioned above.
- The selection is reviewed monthly.
- The label is not permanent and can be assigned or removed during a next selection.
Why does a similar item have a Budgettopper label?
This may be because multiple criteria jointly determine which items get the label. For example, two similar items can score differently on price point within the category, price competitiveness, review score, or customer relevance. As a result, one item might be selected while the other is not.
