What is the buy box?
To make our customers' daily lives easier, we want to offer the best selection. When multiple partners offer the same item via bol, one of the partners is selected for the buy box. This is the partner who, at that moment, has the best offer in terms of price, delivery, and quality. If you have the buy box, the chance that the item added to the shopping cart comes from your product range increases significantly.
A good offer helps you get into the buy box. Various factors are considered for this.
These factors are considered for the buy box
When assigning the buy box, several factors are taken into account. This ensures that our customers get the best deal and that partners have a fair chance:
- Orderability: The item must be available for delivery.
- Condition: Such as refurbished, second-hand, or returned items.
- Price: The price of the item, including shipping costs and VAT, is an important factor. Customers often choose the best deal. Small price differences (e.g., €0.01) have no impact.
- Delivery conditions: The algorithm looks at:
- The delivery time: the faster, the better.
- Delivery period, such as 'ordered before 11:00 PM, delivered tomorrow'.
- Additional delivery option(s): allowing the customer to choose a different (later) delivery time.
- Quality score: the quality score measures your performance on 5 service standards (Items on time, Cancellations, Track & Trace, Returns, Customer inquiries) over 22 weeks, with a score from 0 to 100. You must score at least 65; at 70 or higher, you receive extra benefits. The score can be found in your seller account.
By keeping these factors balanced, we strive for a fair and optimal buy box position for all our partners.
Weighting of factors for the buy box
Which of the mentioned factors weigh most heavily differs per product category. We continuously adjust this weighting based on customer behavior. For everyday items, fast delivery plays a major role, for example, while for furniture, the price is often more important.
We continue to improve the algorithm behind the buy box to offer customers the best deal and increase conversion. This way, together, we ensure an offer that truly meets customer needs.
