New Version Management Strategy for Retailer API

We tackle things together. That's why we help you as a partner to succeed in business and achieve your ambitions. To make it as easy as possible for you, you can use the bol Retailer API, which allows you to easily create an automatic link between your own (webshop) system and your bol seller account. This way, you can manage your sales via bol from one place. To make this process even more efficient, we are revising the way we release and activate new API versions.
As previously announced, based on your feedback, we have been working on a new way to release new functionalities on the Retailer API and phase out old functionalities. With this new 'version management strategy', you only need to perform updates if something truly changes in your implementation.
Retailer API v10, released on October 1st, marks the start of this new version management strategy. The major advantage is that you will not have to make any adjustments in the future if nothing changes for you. Additionally, we can now release new functionalities more frequently than before.
Instead of introducing a new version for the entire Retailer API every six months, versioning will now occur at a lower level. This will make maintaining your API connection easier. For example, the ‘Orders’ resource could remain on v10, while ‘Offers’ moves to v11.
A resource will only move to a new version when there is:
- A ‘breaking change’ on an endpoint within a resource
- An endpoint within a resource is completely removed.
The old version of the resource will then be supported for at least another year.
Deadlines for the final migration of the entire Retailer API
Of course, we advise you to switch all your API activity to Retailer API v10 as soon as possible. If that's not possible right now, please be aware that older versions will be phased out. So, make sure you take the following timelines into account:
- Retailer API v7 and v8 can still be used until May 1, 2024
- Retailer API v9 can still be used until November 1, 2024
How does the migration work?
Depending on which version you are currently using, we have created an overview of the most important changes between the older versions and v10: link.
