Create product family by item

Want to create a product family item per item? Follow the step-by-step guide below!

1. Establish the items in your offer that you want to gather in a family

Items within a product family should meet 3 conditions:

  • The items are in the same product group.
  • The items are from the same brand, or the same author or artist.
  • The items each have a distinctive feature.

2. Select the item variants

Select the items you want to put in the family. You can paste all EANs directly into the search bar. Then click ‘Bewerk productinformatie’ and ‘Koppel varianten’.

3. We check the selected items for the required conditions

If the selection is rejected, it could mean that you did not set a distinctive feature for the items: the feature on which the item variants differ, such as colour or size. You will be notified of this. In that case, adjust the selection as indicated.

What may occur:

  • The items do belong in a product family, however, 1 or more are incorrectly listed in another product group. Adjust the product group at ‘Productinformatie bewerken’ in your seller dashboard.
  • Items are rejected with the message indicating that the brand, author or artist are not the same. If they seemingly have the same brand, author or artist, please contact Partnerservice; they can resolve this for you.
  • The items do belong in a product family, however, 1 or more are incorrectly listed in another product group. Then adjust the product group at ‘Productinformatie bewerken’ in the seller dashboard.
  • A distinguishing feature is set for the whole product family. Are there no distinguishing features for the product family? Then you get the message: ‘Helaas. De artikelen in deze productgroep kunnen we nog niet koppelen’, which means so much as ‘Unfortunately, we cannot link the items in this product group.’  In this case, contact Partnerservice so they can check whether the distinguishing attributes can be created for you.

4. Make sure to check whether all distinguishing features are filled

If a distinguishing feature is missing for an item, it will not be shown in the variant on the product detail page. Therefore, check that all distinguishing attributes are filled and complete where necessary.

5. Check if the attribute is written correctly and the same everywhere

It is important that all attributes are written the same. Open text fields are case-sensitive, so if you name a colour ‘Blue’, do not spell it with a lower case as ‘blue’ as they will not be shown in a family.

6. Check that there are no 'duplicate' items in your product family

Of 2 or more items with exactly the same colour and size, 1 is shown on the product detail page. So if there is 1 light grey and 1 dark grey, adjust them so that they are both shown correctly as different variants of an item.

7. Check whether there are multiple variants of the distinguishing feature

When items are linked on 2 distinctive attributes, there do need to be multiple variants of the ‘attribute’ to be shown as an attribute.

As an example:

  • Item 1: Rood – 140x100cm
  • Item 2: Zwart – 140x100cm
  • Item 3: Blauw – 140x100cm
  • Item 4: Rood – 100x100cm
  • Item 5: Zwart – 100x100cm
  • Item 6: Blauw – 100x100cm

Within this product family, there are 3 colour variants that come in 2 different sizes. For each colour, you will see the 2 size options and for each size, you will see 3 colour options on the product page.

There are 3 colours and 2 sizes distributed evenly. So for each colour, you will see the 2 different sizes and for each size, you will see the 3 different colours on the product page. If these items had had 6 different colours and 6 different sizes, these variants could never have been shown together on the product pages because they could not have been linked to anything.

8. Link variants into a product family

It may take some time for the product family to be visible on the product detail page. Visibility in list pages and search results takes a little longer still. Altogether, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to be visible.
