Greenery
For live greenery, such as plants and Christmas trees, there are adjusted brand guidelines to fill in the brand field, because plants are not branded items by nature. That’s why you usually don’t see a brand on the packaging of greenery. This means that you need a GS1-registered EAN to comply with the brand guidelines for live greenery.
The grower is the party responsible for growing the plant or Christmas tree and can therefore replace the brand name in the brand field when a registered trademark is missing–the grower is the traceable source of the item. However, different growers may have the same type of plant or Christmas tree. Therefore, they require their own EAN. The brand name does not have to be visible on the product images. By listing the grower in the brand field and providing clear product information, you make sure that your offering complies with the guidelines for live greenery and that your product range remains online. You can find more information about applying for an EAN here.
Example:
Multiple growers can grow a 100-centimetre Nordmann Christmas tree, which means they all require different EANs. That is why you cannot offer a real Christmas tree under an existing EAN. You can, however, sell a real Christmas trees of the same height and from the same grower under the same GS1 EAN, registered by you.
European legislation on explosives precursors
Precursors are substances that can be found in everyday household items and can be used for making explosives. That's why European legislation restricts (the use of) these substances. From 1 February 2021, European Regulation 2019/1148 on explosives precursors applies. This European legislation also applies in the Netherlands. Read more.
Pest control
Mouse and rat poison
Since June 29, 2023, it is no longer permitted to sell mouse and rat poison based on anticoagulants (blood thinners) in the Netherlands. Alpha-chloralose (a consciousness-depressing agent) is permitted. If you want to offer mouse and rat poison via bol, you must always state the authorization number for the country of sale in the content.
Glue traps and glue boards
The use of glue traps or glue boards for catching rats and mice is prohibited in the Netherlands, unless the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) grants an exception for you. Furthermore, the use of glue boards is animal-unfriendly and therefore undesirable on our platform.
Pesticide authorisation number
Items that claim in their content and/or on their packaging to destroy, repel, render harmless or prevent something, only enter the market after extensive testing. Independent organizations, associations with a neutral position, check whether the item is safe enough for humans, animals, and the environment. All approved items receive an authorisation number. We ask you to include this authorisation number in your content. Without an authorisation number, you cannot offer items in the ‘Pesticides & Biocides’ category. You can find the authorisation number in one of the following 3 databases:
Click here to adjust your content. Please note! You always enter the authorisation number for 2 countries. For each item, there is a separate entry field for the Dutch authorisation number and a separate field for the Belgian authorisation number. These numbers can differ. Only enter an authorisation number for the country where you offer the item. Always enter a ‘0’ for the country where you do not offer the item.
