Getting started with bol.checkout
With bol.checkout, you can add bol's trusted payment method to your own webshop. On this page, we explain exactly how you can get started: from installation to payment and frequently asked questions. What is bol.checkout?
Bol.checkout is a payment method that allows customers to pay in your webshop using their bol account. This automatically fills in address and payment details, preventing potential errors in orders. This way, you offer customers a checkout experience they recognize and trust, reduce errors and friction in the checkout process, and increase conversion in your own webshop.
How does it work?
- In the checkout of your own webshop, customers choose “bol.checkout”
- They log in with their bol account
- Address and payment details are automatically filled in
- Payment is processed via one of the available payment methods
Getting started with bol.checkout
Here's how you can use bol.checkout:
- Check if you meet the conditions for checkout*
- Sign up via your seller account
- Integrate bol.checkout into your WooCommerce or Magento webshop
*Currently, only existing Dutch partners of bol with a WooCommerce or Magento webshop can use bol.checkout. We are working on expanding to Belgian partners, webshops on Shopify or other platforms, and entrepreneurs who do not yet sell via bol.
About the finances
Your payout term depends on the customer's payment method, and therefore works slightly differently than bol's 'normal' payout term. With bol.checkout, customers can pay via iDEAL, Bancontact, or Postpay via bol. Depending on the customer's payment method, you can be paid monthly, weekly, or even bi-weekly. The costs for bol.checkout depend on the payment method and the payment volume in your webshop. For each transaction, you pay a combination of fixed and variable costs. Install bol.checkout in Magento
Download bol.checkout as an extension
You can integrate bol.checkout as an extension into your Magento webshop via the standard Magento module structure. The implementation consists of:
- installation of the extension via Composer
- configuration of the API credentials
- connection to the existing checkout and order processing
The extension uses the standard Magento order flow and connects to existing payment and fulfillment processes.
Implement in your webshop
Do you use a standard Magento checkout, such as Luma or Hyvä? Then implementation is usually simple. You will have bol.checkout working quickly! For a custom checkout or custom logic, it often involves more custom work. In that case, more time is needed to connect existing checkout and order logic to the bol.checkout extension. This may require additional coordination and testing.
The payment methods
Customers can pay with bol.checkout via Direct payment or Postpay. Both payment options are functionally supported by bol.checkout. They are part of the same extension and are offered within 1 integrated payment flow. Please note, for Direct payment, additional onboarding must be done with our payment partner.
Check before going live
Before going live, we recommend:
- implementation and validation in a staging environment
- testing the complete order flow
- checking refund processing and order statuses

Install bol.checkout in WooCommerce
Download bol.checkout as a plug-in
You can add bol.checkout as a plugin to your WooCommerce webshop via the standard WooCommerce plugin installation. The implementation consists of:
- downloading the plugin via the partner dashboard (ZIP file)
- uploading and activating the plugin in WordPress
- configuring API credentials
- activating the payment method within WooCommerce
The plugin connects to the standard WooCommerce checkout and uses the existing order and payment flow.
Implement in your webshop
Implementation in a standard WooCommerce checkout is easy! Usually, you'll have bol.checkout working quickly without technical adjustments. Do you use a different checkout, such as multi-step checkouts, checkout blocks, or a heavily customized theme? Then additional coordination may be necessary. Bol.checkout must then connect to the existing checkout, which may affect the display and functionality of the payment method.
