Commission changes as of March 1, 2021

Together with our partners, we want to create the best store for our shared customers. For customers, this means the most complete product range possible, at the best price. And for our partners, it means room to grow by generating more revenue from sales via bol. That's why the commission for a large number of product categories will change this year.

The changes will be implemented at two points in time: on March 1 and during the summer. Both instances will primarily involve commission reductions. With these changes to the variable part of the commissions, we are investing in an even better bol platform. In the summer, the commission reduction will apply to the fashion category (women's and men's fashion, baby and children's fashion, maternity wear, shoes, sports and outdoor clothing and shoes, hosiery and underwear) and the fast-moving consumer goods category (such as baby care, personal care, household products, and health). More information about the summer changes will follow later this year. For now, we would like to tell you everything about the new commissions as of March 1.

What are the changes?

Most of the changes involve a commission reduction, with the exception of Christmas trees, sex toys and sets, Apple telephony, and tablets. The table below shows for which product range a change will be implemented as of March 1. The fixed commission does not change – an overview of this can be found on this page.

**This commission was temporarily reduced from 12.4% to 9% from 1-11-2020 to 1-03-2021. This commission will remain at 9% even after March 1, 2021.

Commission reduction on your product range

If the commission is reduced on the product range you sell, your margin on the selling price will increase. Take advantage of this by adding more items from those product categories to your product range.

You can also benefit from the commission reductions by carefully reviewing your selling prices and making them more competitive where possible. After all, with competitive prices, your offer becomes more attractive to potential customers, which can lead to increased sales and revenue.

Perhaps you have also considered selling items from another category via bol. In the categories where commissions are decreasing, this becomes even more attractive. So, check out the new commissions for other relevant product ranges and start selling.

Calculation examples

Suppose you sell a Lego item for 69.99 euros. The fixed part of the commission for Lego remains unchanged at 0.83 euros. The variable part of the commission is reduced from 12.4% to 7%, which means 3.78 euros less than before.

Are you selling a stroller for 499 euros? Then the fixed part of the commission remains unchanged at 0.83 euros. With a new variable commission of 8% instead of 12.4%, you end up with 21.96 euros less commission than before the reduction.
