Change in PostNL letterbox mail delivery for own shipping

A decorative envelope with a blue circular pattern and a wax seal lies on a mint green background. A sealing stamp with a wooden handle is next to it.

Due to an amendment to the Postal Act, PostNL is changing the delivery of letter mail. From July 12, these shipments will often be delivered within 1-2 days, instead of the current 24-hour delivery promise. Do you arrange your own shipping of letterbox parcels? In this article, we explain what is changing and what you can do to keep your delivery promise as strong as possible.

Letterbox mail delivery time will be extended

PostNL will soon deliver letterbox mail within 1-2 days. Since you now arrange your own shipping, you have multiple options.

Important: check your delivery promise

The most important thing is: deliver on what you promise the customer. Check via My Delivery Promise in your seller account or via the API whether your delivery promise still matches what you can actually deliver. Do you want to know more about how to set this up correctly? Read more here.

Do you want to continue delivering quickly?

  • Do you want to keep the shipping of letterbox parcels in your own hands? Then choose letterbox parcel+. This network runs via PostNL's parcel network and ensures faster delivery, higher delivery reliability, and better Track & Trace. Thanks to the 24-hour delivery promise, you benefit from more conversion, and the higher reliability can lead to higher customer satisfaction.
  • When using this network, it is important to drop off your shipments at a PostNL drop-off point, and not via the orange letterboxes.
  • Do you want more support in your logistical operation? Then you can use Shipping via bol for your letter mail shipments. Shipping via bol also uses PostNL's faster and more reliable letterbox parcel+ network. Thanks to the economies of scale, Shipping via bol offers you an extra competitive price. In addition, you are further relieved: we take care of the shipping of your parcels, answer customer questions about delivery, and you are no longer responsible for the performance of the carrier.
