OrderId and OrderItemId will contain numbers and letters

From July 1, 2024, OrderIds and OrderItemIds will become alphanumeric. This means they will no longer consist solely of numbers, but can also contain letters. Additionally, OrderItemIds will become longer. We explain exactly what is changing so you won't encounter any surprises.
OrderId will contain numbers and letters
The OrderId is the unique identifier for an order. We communicate this not only internally at bol, but also to partners and customers.

Since the beginning, we have only used numbers in the text field. However, from July 1st, letters will be added, making the OrderId alphanumeric. The length will remain the same.

OrderItemId will be longer and can contain letters
The OrderItemId is the unique identifier for an item within an order. Currently, the OrderItemId text field always contains 14 digits.

New format
From July 1st, this field can contain not only numbers but also letters. There will also be space for more than 14 characters in the field.
Nothing changes for API users
The API fields remain textual. So, if you use the API, these changes will not affect you. In versions 8, 9, and 10 of the API, both fields are already defined as 'string'.
Check if your systems can handle this
Check your systems and processes to ensure they can handle an OrderId and OrderItemId that contain characters other than numbers. Also, check if they can accommodate a variable length. This way, you won't encounter any surprises in July. From April 1st, bol will already be creating some orders with the new textual values. Three months later, this will be the standard for all orders on the bol platform.
