New European packaging rules (PPWR)

The European Union is introducing new rules to limit packaging waste and encourage reuse through the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The first obligations take effect on 12 August 2026. It is important to check what this means for the items you sell via bol.
What will change?
The PPWR sets stricter requirements for almost all packaging on the European market, regardless of the material. The law focuses on less waste, better recyclability, and the use of materials with a lower impact on the environment. These rules will be introduced step by step between 2026 and 2030. Online sales also fall completely under this new law.
Who do the rules apply to and what do you need to do?
The rules apply to all partners who offer packaged items. Do you sell via Logistics via bol? Then bol takes care of compliance for the shipping packaging, such as boxes and tape. You remain responsible yourself for the item packaging of your items.
It is important that you already check whether your registrations for packaging (EPR) are in order and that you gather information about materials from your suppliers. In the future, bol will check this. If you do not comply with the rules, this can have consequences for the sellability of your items on the platform.
