Changes to the food and drink items policy

Do you sell food and drink items or food supplements via bol? Then ensure that all items have a valid EAN/GTIN registered with the GS1 Data Source before September 1st. The mandatory content that needs to be filled in for food and drink items and food supplements will be retrieved from the GS1 Data Source starting this month. You can read exactly how this works here.
To ensure the safety and quality of our shared product range for customers, it is important that food and drink items and food supplements comply with applicable laws and regulations. For example, all food and drink items need a valid EAN/GTIN (European Article Number/Global Trade Item Number) registered with GS1. This means that a GS1 registration from the manufacturer or brand owner is mandatory on the bol platform. Please note: your items must also comply with European food legislation.
Are your items not yet registered with GS1? Then follow the step-by-step plan at the bottom of this page.
This changes for content
The mandatory content that needs to be filled in for food and drink items will be retrieved from the GS1 Data Source starting in September. This only concerns the legally required information; you can add the description, title, and product images yourself.
By retrieving part of the content from the GS1 Data Source, all customers will see the legally required information in the same way before they buy an item. This applies to items originating from both within and outside the European Union. More information about the GS1 Data Source can be found on this page.
Step-by-step plan: How do I get my items registered with GS1?
Are your items not yet registered with GS1? Then follow the step-by-step plan below:
- Are you the manufacturer, supplier, or brand owner of the item?
• Yes –> Go to step 2
• No –> If the manufacturer or brand owner does not wish to register, you can become a data supplier; go to step 4. - Does your item have a GTIN (EAN) registration with GS1?
• Yes –> Go to step 3.
• No –> Go to step 4. - Is the legally required content available in the GS1 Data Source?
• Yes –> Go to step 6
• No –> Go to step 4. - Ensure that the manufacturer, supplier, or brand owner of the item registers for GS1 Data Source and publishes the content to bol in GS1 Data Source. To do this, go to the GS1 website. Would you like more information? Please contact GS1 Netherlands via info@gs1.nl or (020) 511 38 88. Partnerservice unfortunately cannot assist with this.
- Follow the step-by-step plan from GS1 Netherlands for entering the items into the data pool. Please note that onboarding training must be completed first.
- bol can retrieve and load the content for the correct GTINs/EANs if it is published to the entire market or specifically to bol (GLN number is 8712423020597). Is this the case? Then bol will retrieve the content from GS1 and load it with the linked item. If this is not the case? Then we will subscribe to the relevant data supplier. This will take a few days. Please ensure that bol's request is accepted.
