Good Choice-label Policy Tightened

The quality marks and characteristics at item level that we assign to items are aligned with Milieu Centraal. We now know that some quality marks or characteristics previously considered 'Good Choice' are less sustainable than expected. Alternatively, new comparable quality marks or characteristics with even greater (sustainability) benefits have emerged on the market. Therefore, we are removing the Good Choice-label from some items. As a result, the Good Choice-label will disappear from a number of items after the holidays. Please note: we are not taking the items offline.
Why are we adjusting our policy?
The industry and European Union are setting increasingly critical requirements for more sustainable product ranges. As a result, some labels or certifications associated with our items no longer meet these requirements. Milieu Centraal, our objective external research partner for determining Good Choices, assists and advises us in this. Their knowledge and insights regarding sustainability evolve over time. To stay in line with new insights, laws, and regulations concerning sustainability, Milieu Centraal has asked us to remove certain quality marks from our policy.
Which labels are affected?
A number of well-known quality marks that will disappear are:
- Climate Neutral Certified
- Cotton Made in Africa
- FairForward
- FairStone
- Fair Wear Foundation
- FSC Mix
- IVN Naturleder
- Milieukeur
- MPS
- Natrue
- NaturePlus
- Naturland Textiles
- OEKO-TEX Made in Green
- Quality Mark Good Soil
- REDcert2 Biobased Verf
- Social Enterprise NL
In addition, quality marks will be removed for specific groups/materials:
- Agriculture Biologique: for coffee, tea, and chocolate.
- Bio Siegel: for coffee, tea, and chocolate.
- Blauer Engel: for plastic materials, shoes, paint & electronics.
- Certified Sustainable Enterprise: for personal care items.
- FSC 100%: for paper & cardboard.
- PEFC: for paper & cardboard.
- Energielabels A+++: for tumble dryers.
We understand that this impacts our product range, but we want to ensure our Good Choice-label is as reliable and independent as possible and does not mislead customers. The Good Choice-label will be removed for these items after the holidays.
No adjustments will be made to other unmentioned quality marks. Items with these quality marks still qualify for a Good Choice-label. Want to know more? View this page.
