Making logistics more sustainable
At bol, we want to improve every day: from packaging and delivering as efficiently as possible to using 100 percent wind and solar energy in all our buildings. With our more sustainable product range, we want to help customers make a conscious choice and reduce our CO2 emissions per package as much as possible.
What can you do?
For several years, bol has focused on reducing CO2, at least for our own operations. But what can you do? Through logistical innovations, for example, you can make a positive impact on climate goals. But how? You could consider shipping your items without an outer box, or reducing your packaging material. Perhaps you can source your product range closer to home, or try to reduce your returns. Are you looking for concrete tips? Take a look at our Climate Hub.
What can you do to make deliveries more sustainable?
- Switch to Shipping via bol. For this, we only work with the most sustainable carriers in the market and delivery options such as delivery to pick-up points.
- Make use of Logistics via bol. This way, we can often transport multiple items from the same order in one box, or even ship the package without an outer box if the item allows it.
- Discuss more sustainable options with your carrier.
Making the ‘last mile’ more sustainable
Together with PostNL and our other logistical partners, we are working to make deliveries even more sustainable. For example, customers can pick up their package at one of the thousands of bol pick-up points in Albert Heijn and Delhaize stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, among others. Last year, 17 percent of our packages were also delivered by bicycle or on foot.
More packages delivered by bicycle
This year, we started an intensive collaboration with the carrier Cycloon. Cycloon works with various local social workshops and delivers all packages by bicycle. Through our partnership with Cycloon, we aim to double the share of bicycle deliveries in the coming years.
We also support the e-commerce sector in the development of Bewust Bezorgd (Conscious Delivery), an initiative by Thuiswinkel.org, by sharing logistical data. This calculation tool shows both consumers and entrepreneurs the CO2 emissions of a package delivery and how it can be made more environmentally friendly. This way, we can help our customers make a more sustainable delivery choice.
