Shipping options

After a customer has placed an order with you, you will find this order in your seller account under the 'Orders' tab. You have 3 options for confirming and shipping your orders. On this page, we'll tell you more.

There are 3 ways to ship your package:

  • Shipping via bol: With the Shipping via bol service, you can ship your orders without a worry at attractive rates – as long as you ship from the Netherlands.
  • Shipping label via bol: With this service, you can purchase affordable shipping labels for shipments via PostNL and Bpost.
  • Shipping with your own method: With ‘Other shipping method’, you don't buy your shipping labels via bol, but arrange the shipping yourself elsewhere.

Multiple items from the same order

First, check if there are multiple items from the same order. Are the orders shipped using 'Your own shipping method'? Then you can send them in one box with one shipping label – which saves costs. In that case, follow the rest of the step-by-step plan for one of the items and for the remaining items from the same order, choose ‘Other shipping method’. You can then enter the same track & trace number here to confirm the other items.

Is one of the orders placed via Shipping via bol, and the rest of the orders via your own shipping method? In that case, confirm the order via Shipping via bol. Select a shipping label and deliver the package on time. For the remaining items from the same order, choose ‘Other shipping method’.

Please note: for two different Shipping via bol packages, 2 shipping labels still need to be created. This impacts the service standard 'Items on time'.

Size and weight requirements

Make sure that the item to be shipped meets the size and weight requirements of the purchased shipping label. Some carriers cannot process packages with unusual shapes, such as a cylinder.

Barcode readability

When packing your orders, ensure that the tracking code on the package is easily scannable. Do this by not placing adhesive tape over the barcode. Additionally, the size of the barcode and the ink quality are also important for the scannability of the labels. This helps prevent delays in the shipping process.

Item suitability

Make sure you only ship items that are suitable for postal delivery. For example, it is not allowed to sell fireworks via bol: these items are not suitable for delivery by a shipping service. If you are unsure whether your product range complies with laws and regulations, please contact the carrier first.

Insured shipping

Do you ship fragile or valuable items? Then it is advisable to send these items insured. Currently, bol does not offer insured shipping labels via ‘Shipping label via bol’. Therefore, we advise you to contact the carriers yourself and check which options are most suitable for your product range.

Postage paid

Are you shipping via your own shipping method using ‘postage paid’ via your own PostNL customer number? Then check if your ‘postage paid’ shipments meet the following conditions:

  1. The sender's details should be placed on the postal item, preferably in the top left corner;
  2. You only offer your ‘postage paid’ postal items via your PostNL customer number (via your MijnPost account), and;
  3. You deliver your ‘postage paid’ postal items via the correct route agreed upon with the carrier. Please note: ‘postage paid’ postal items can never be delivered via a standard letterbox.

Automate

If you prefer not to process your bol orders in your seller account but in your own system, you can use Automate via bol. There are various ecosystem partners that can help automate your orders/shipments, among other things. If you want to build and manage the integration yourself, you can automate your orders and shipments. Please note that technical knowledge is required for this.
