Price Stars

By comparing prices with other market prices, we ensure that our customers see a fair price. And that's important to us. We compare prices not only via bol, but also elsewhere. Price stars indicate how competitive an item's price is compared to the prices of other providers. The more price stars, the more competitive the price.

You can see your price stars in the item overview in your seller account. Or you can retrieve the price stars in the API. If you have 4 price stars, you're generally doing well. The score does not apply to one specific price, but to a price level. Different prices at the same level can therefore have the same number of price stars. Some items do not receive a price star. For example, because competitor information is missing or other price information is absent.

The higher the price star, the more benefits you get in the market, and from us. The more competitive your price in the market, the sooner people will buy your item. You'll quickly notice more visitors to your webshop, a higher ranking in search results, and more clicks on your item. This leads to higher conversion. But we also want to reward good prices. That's why items with a certain price star receive certain benefits.

SEA (Search Engine Advertising) budget
bol has ongoing advertising campaigns with Google Ads. We advertise here for items from bol and partners. If your item has at least 3 price stars, it qualifies for SEA budget. There isn't always budget for every category or search term, but if there is budget (again), your item automatically benefits from it.

Participating in promotions
You don't pay anything extra when participating in bol promotions, but there are conditions. To participate, you must have at least 1 item among the selected items for the campaign. We make that selection based on several quality requirements. These include historical and current revenue and sales, review scores, and how often an item has been viewed. We always try to make a selection of items that are relevant to our customers.

Price stars and product bundles

Do you want to offer a product bundle that is more expensive than a standard item? If the EAN of your bundle is the same as the standard item, we cannot distinguish between the items. We assess the price of your bundles the same way as other items. It doesn't matter if they are new or second-hand.

Always have the right price for your items and save time? Via the API, you can easily automate your prices and price stars. Need help? There are several ecosystem partners that automatically adjust your prices based on the price stars. The system they use for this is called a repricer. This way, you always benefit from the price stars.
