Product and content misrepresentation

Product and content misrepresentation is one of the categories of policy violations that we monitor. This includes offering a product range that does not match the displayed images, title, specifications, or item description. Want to know more? We'll explain it to you.

Sending an item different from what was promised

It is not allowed to deliver an item other than what is promised on the original item page. Receiving an item different from what was expected is very annoying and confusing for the customer. It is therefore important that the delivered item matches the item page.

What is not allowed, for example

  • Sending an item that does not match the item specifications. For example, language, version, etc.
  • Sending an item that is not registered in exactly the same way under the relevant EAN number.
  • Sending an item that does not match the item images.
  • Sending an item in different item packaging. For example: for bulk packaging with 16 items, it is not allowed to send two packages of 8 items.
  • Sending a different color than the customer ordered.
  • Sending an alternative item (from a different brand).

Posting incorrect content

What is not allowed, for example

  • Intentionally adding incorrect specifications to the item description.
  • Intentionally changing attributes such as ‘number of items in packaging’ or ‘color’ and thereby disadvantaging other partners or customers.
  • Using an image of a human model if it does not add value to the item.

What is allowed

  • Adding extra (correct) information to the item description, even if you don't have the buy box.

Making misleading claims

What is not allowed, for example

  • Giving the impression that an item has a certain certification when it does not.
  • Making a claim that is not scientifically substantiated (for example, about ‘5G radiation’ or ‘COVID protection’).
  • Making a comparison (for example, in an item image) with an item from another partner on the platform.
  • Promotional expressions in the content, such as ‘1+1 free’, ‘Black Friday deal’, or ‘Mother's Day Gift’.

Duplicate offer

It is not allowed on our platform to offer identical items under different EANs (duplicate offer). Furthermore, it is not allowed to offer a duplicate product range from different accounts. If you have multiple seller accounts, the product range or the country of sale must differ per account. Besides causing confusion, it is also not allowed to compete with yourself.

What is not allowed, for example

  • Offering the same identical item under different EANs with the same seller account. Please note: if you offer the same item as a branded item and as an unbranded item, and the item does not comply with the brand guidelines and intellectual property rights? Then this is also considered a duplicate offer.
  • Offering the same item with multiple seller accounts under the same Chamber of Commerce number.
  • Offering the same item with multiple seller accounts under different Chamber of Commerce numbers.
  • Offering the same item from different seller accounts where one is delivered via Shipping via bol and the other from your own stock.

Policy

Good to know: in case of a 'Product and content misrepresentation' policy violation, we only deduct the relevant number of points from the seller account that commits the violation. Any other seller accounts, linked to the same Chamber of Commerce number, retain their total points and do not receive any deduction in policy points. If one of your seller accounts reaches 0 policy points, we will close all seller accounts under that Chamber of Commerce number.
