Sustainability characteristics

Within our wide product range, it is important that customers can make well-informed choices. Not only based on specifications or quality, but also regarding the origin, production process, and environmental impact of items. Our customers are looking for items with sustainability characteristics, and it is our responsibility to inform them correctly about this. Items with characteristics that have a demonstrable sustainability benefit compared to similar items are made clearly recognisable and easy to find in our shop. So for you as a partner, it is extra important to label your items properly!

Within the bol product range, items are labeled with a sustainability characteristic if they meet at least 1 of these 2 points:

• The item has an approved quality mark
• The item has an approved characteristic (e.g. washable nappy)

On the page of each theme, you can find which quality marks or characteristics within that theme can receive a label.

• Choice: Sustainability plays a role in the purchase decision for the majority of our customers
• Findability: This product range receives a special label and therefore gains more visibility
• Future: Sustainability is hugely important for retaining the customer of the future
• Costs: There are no additional costs

Bol currently recognises quality marks and characteristics in the following themes:

• Helps save energy
• Helps save drinking water
• Helps save raw materials
• Helps save waste
• Control of raw material extraction and production process
• No or less harmful materials or ingredients
• Control of labor and/or animal welfare
• B Corp
• Helps good cause
• Helps biodiversity

We update the sustainability themes and recognised characteristics and quality marks regularly, and we will keep you informed about this.

Our label indicates that an item with a characteristic has a demonstrable sustainability benefit compared to similar items. You can recognise these items at bol by the sustainability characteristics label on the item, which you can see both on the item page itself and in the search results. Items with a sustainability characteristic can be found via the product range page with all categories. When your item carries a label, the product range is easier to find and recognise – and that increases the chance of sales! Here is an example:

Do you sell a product range that has a characteristic or quality mark? Then you can request one or more labels through the following steps:

1. Check whether your product range meets the criteria of the desired label (see themes);
2. Download "Request Form Sustainability Characteristics" using the button below and indicate per EAN which quality mark your item carries. Does the quality mark apply to the entire brand? Then fill in the ‘brandlevel’ tab with the brand name and the quality mark.
3. Upload the proof of your sustainability quality marks so we can be sure your product range qualifies.
4. Fill in the form and click ‘send’. The form can be found on every theme page. See the menu on the left.
5. You will receive a response within 2 business days.
