Helps save raw materials

An item that helps reduce the use of new raw materials compared to the conventional alternative. By using raw materials longer, for example through second-hand, repair, refurbishment, or enabling a generally long lifespan. Or by saving raw materials through the use of recycled materials or a digital version.

The following labels can be assigned to items within this theme:

• Second-hand: Items that get a second life with another owner, meaning they don't have to buy a new item and new raw materials are saved.
• Refurbished: Items that are made as good as new again by replacing parts, resulting in fewer new raw materials being needed in total.
• Digital version: Items that are delivered digitally, significantly saving on raw materials compared to physical alternatives. The raw material savings during production are greater than the energy consumption during the usage phase.
• Extends lifespan: Specific items that repair other items, allowing them to be used longer and requiring fewer new raw materials in total.
• Repairable: Items that can be repaired by the user themselves, where repair is made possible by the manufacturer through information about repairs and spare parts that remain available for a long time. Repair saves raw materials needed to make a new item.
• Min. 50% recycled: Items made from at least 50% previously used raw materials, reducing the need for new raw materials.

Replaceable parts

Replaceable parts must extend product lifespan, not be the type of items that fall under standard maintenance/use, and not be items that are (sometimes) already included extra for replacement or convenience. For example, power tools that come standard with two batteries so you can keep charging while using.

Repair kits

Items intended to repair a specific item qualify for this. However, this must concern repair options that are not already legally required, and it only applies to manual repair items and not items working on electronics or batteries. Currently, the Repairable sustainability label applies to repair kits for the following types of product groups:

• phones (for example, by replacing the screen or back yourself)
• tents
• airbeds/inflatables
• tyres (both bicycle and car)
• Heel repair kits for shoes
• Watch repair kits
• Pressure regulators for tennis/padel balls
• Heel repair

If your repair kit is not listed, you can let us know and we can see what the possibilities are.

Do you sell a product range that carries a quality mark or certificate? Then you can request one or more labels using the following steps:

1. Check whether your product range meets the criteria of the desired label (see themes);
2. Download "Request_Form_Sustainability_Labels" using the button below and indicate per EAN which quality mark your item carries. Does the quality mark apply to the entire brand? Then fill out the 'brand level' tab with the brand name and the quality mark.
3. Upload proof of your sustainability quality marks so we can be sure your product range qualifies.
4. Fill out the form and click 'send'. The form can be found on every theme page. See the menu on the left.
5. You will receive a response within 2 business days.
