Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
EPR obliges the first supplier in NL or BE to collect and recycle. Selling via bol is only possible with compliance. Arrange your sales rights or registration to prevent items from being taken offline.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility. EPR means that the party who first brings the item to market in the Netherlands or Belgium is also responsible for the collection, reuse, or recycling of items and packaging. This can be the producer, but also you, the partner. You then pay a certain amount for this.
Partners are only allowed to sell via bol in Belgium and the Netherlands if they comply with the applicable EPR regulations. If partners do not comply, we are legally obliged to take the relevant product range offline. We will actively enforce this soon. Do you sell items within the EPR categories? Then you must do the following to be allowed to sell:
- obtain sales rights or;
- register with the management organizations.
Therefore, apply for your sales rights now or register with a management organization.
Who can apply for sales rights?
- Partners who are not obliged to pay EPR fees.
- Partners from outside the European Union (without a VAT number) who are EPR-obligated.
- Partners who pay EPR fees individually.
Are you obliged to pay EPR fees and do you do so? Then you will be automatically approved to sell in the relevant categories. Only partners from outside the European Union (without a VAT number) cannot be automatically approved. They will also need to apply for sales rights via bol.
For which product categories do I need to apply for sales rights?
Because bol needs to check whether selling partners pay fees for some EPRs, you can only apply for sales rights for these categories. For other categories for which an EPR obligation may also apply, we do not yet need to check whether selling partners pay fees. That may change in the future.
The categories for which you can apply for sales rights are:
- Electrical/electronic appliances, disposable cameras, and (pocket) lamps (for selling in Belgium)
- Car tires (for selling in Belgium)
- Batteries and accumulators (for selling in Belgium)
- HEV batteries and vehicles (for selling in Belgium)
- Mattresses (for selling in Belgium)
- Solar panels (for selling in Belgium)
- Batteries (for selling in the Netherlands)
What do I need to provide?
What you need to provide to apply for sales rights depends on your role.
- For partners who are not EPR-obligated: a purchase invoice per product category for 1 of the items you wish to sell
- For partners from outside the European Union who are EPR-obligated: proof of registration with a management organization
- For partners who pay individually: proof of individual payment
