Electric scooters

Do you want to offer electric scooters (e-scooters) on our platform? Then you must demonstrate that the brand and its associated product range comply with Dutch and Belgian laws and regulations and bol guidelines. To determine whether the brand complies with bol guidelines and safety and quality requirements, we conduct a check.

Electric scooters must meet the following requirements:

CE marking guidelines:

  • The electric scooter. Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive); and
  • The power supply of the electric scooter: Directive 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive) for placing electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits on the market.

Additionally, we only offer e-scooters with a power output or assistance up to a maximum of 25 km/h. We do not allow e-scooters with higher speeds on the platform, and thus we comply with the directive of a maximum of 25 KM/H for e-scooters.

Electric scooters with a seat require vehicle registration in Belgium. So, make sure to clearly state this in your item description.

Registration requirement
As of July 1, 2025, a registration requirement will apply to all special mopeds newly introduced into traffic. From this date, newly approved vehicles, including electric scooters, must apply for a license plate with the RDW.

With the introduction of mandatory registration for this category of vehicles (light electric vehicles without pedal assistance), it will be clear to everyone whether a vehicle is approved as a special moped and is allowed to drive on public roads. For more information, consult the RDW website.
